In my major project I looked at the African American community using political satire. My chosen text was The Wiz an all black cast version of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz written by William. F Brown adapted from Frank L. Baum’s original. Using the soulful music from The Wiz Live! (2015) and by injecting today’s divisive American political climate into 1960’s Kansas. In the midst of The Civil Rights Movement, and segregation in the deep south. I explore theatrical satire and a timeless musical with timeless themes of racism, humanism and self acceptance.
